I have convinced myself in one of those middle-of-the-night panics that I may have contracted Weil's disease. What are the odds on this?

Found a dead rat writing with maggots floating belly up in my water butt 3 weeks ago. Disposed of said item, baulking & screaming. Did not touch the thing, but had to get rid of the water which stank to high heaven & had bits of decaying flesh, fur & a tail at the bottom.

I wore gloves & wellies & as far as I know didn't touch the water. Much. But now I have a cold virus which has turned into a flu-like illness since I swilled away & got rid of the water. Fever, sweats, laryngitis & a squeaky cough that hurts.

Please - no jokes about the state of my butt...

I remember being tested for it years ago after doing some BTCV work. We cleared a large pond of all kinds of disgusting things to make it all nice and pretty and build a boardwalk etc...

I had to carry a Weil's disease card and remember them making a fuss when I came down with some infection/cold and testing me for it but all ok and I'd been over the knee deep in rat and goodness knows what else infested manky water for days.

Evil colds seem to be doing the rounds at the moment and our office is all coughing and sneezing.

Worth a mention to your GP if you're worried, sure they could initially speak over the phone?
