Teeth Extraction...

I had two teeth (next to each other ) out on Tuesday morning ....The dentist told me I would experience some pain for a short while but pain killers should deal with it.
60 hours later and the pain is as bad as before extraction.
I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and take Co-Codamol 30/500 for this but they are having no effect on the pain in my mouth ....I read online that it can take upto 5 days for the pain to diminish.....any suggestions in the mean time would be greatly appreciated..

My dad always recommended swishing a small amount of neat whisky round the mouth for toothache - it certainly numbs things for a bit.

Do you smoke ? because that can cause all manner of trouble with recently extracted teeth.
Maybe you could try a different pain killer, I had some diabolical root-abscess pain a while ago and the only thing that hit the spot was DF118 (fairly strong di-hydro codeine).

karenmac60......your dad sounds as if he's from my school ( lol ) ... tried this but it does only give relief for a very short time , enjoyed trying it though.

Thanks laurababy ....already take an anti inflamatory ( diclofenac ) for my R Arthritis.

Try Propain Plus - or the Extra version of Solpadeine (the ordinary version is the same as CoCodamol) - you can only take a couple as they knock you out, but they help the pain. I've always got a pack of Propain Plus in the cupboard, for migraine.

Sounds like you might have picked up an infection, and might need some anti biotics get down to the dentist and get it checked right away

I've always found Tramadol to be the best for easing dental pain.

Aspro Clear tabs that dissolve in water. They work better after food.

Did you rinse your mouth out within 24 hours after the extraction and dislodge the dried blood. If you did, this could be what they call a 'dry socket' - it is very painful - I have had this and ended up on 2 lots of antibiotics.

Thanks for all the replies folk.....things seem to be settling down somewhat this afternoon ( touch wood ). Not feeling as if I've been kicked in the jaw by a horse as much now.
