Would a Chimney Sweep charge to sweep one chimney please. I have never had to have this done before and the house I am living in now has an open fire - unsure if and when it has been swept. I don't want to ring a sweep until I have a rough guide on price. Checked Yell and no one has prices on thier websites.

Thanks

It's about £20 here in Belfast.
or about £40 to buy the kit to do it yourself and never have to pay to get it swept again

Add an old bed sheet with a hole cut in the middle and you have all you need.
I was charged £30.
B&Q used to sell drain rod kits that included a chimney brush
We were charged £40 but it's a posh chimney!
Do It Yourself?

I have visions of a Laurel and Hardy type scene of incompetence and devastation.
Last year I paid £40, but I expect the price has gone up a bit now. (Thanks for reminding me. Note to self: ring chimneysweep).
Oh Greedy you're so lucky! I miss my fire. I used to use a vacuum chimney sweep company, it was a good bit dearer than the prices mentioned on here (about £80) but it was well worth it. The fireplace was immaculate when they left - not a speck of soot anywhere.
Send a child up there with a brush, it`s much cheaper
I miss my open fire too. :o(

Can't remember how much we used to pay. We now live in a bungalow with a "pretend" coal fire (gas). Much cleaner but sadly lacking.
My son paid £40 last week but they did an excellent job, left no mess whatsoever.
A friend of mine used to shove a crunched up newspaper up his chimney and light it every couple of months to burn of any excess soot.
I lived opposite him and paid a sweep £20 three times a year ...I had 2 or three chimney fires a year he never had any ! ! !.
I lived in a bungalow he lived in a house.
I never did have the nerve to use a newspaper and save money .
Your choice.....
when I was a kid my thrifty mum used to put lighted paper up the chimney to clear it until one day the whole chimney caught light and we had to call the fire brigade, she used the chimney sweep after that. I think the price you all quote are reasonable I thought in this day and age it would have been around £100.
