Money was tight. Dad grew loads of veg and would barter with people for eggs meat etc. When a bank holiday was looming he would go to the local club with money in his pocket to buy coal that miners wanted to sell. Does anyone else have these memories?
micmak thats fair comment, I am pleased you came back in and sorry if you thought I was pointing the finger at you, I was not but feelings still run high among the mining communities
I thought I had taken part bobbi. At the time of the strike i was living in London. Every week I would send my brother what I could afford. this thread was started, not about the miners strike but about bartering and swopping when none of us had nowt.
point taken mm, but at those times the Miners strike was bound to rear its head as it was a time of hardship, did not mean to divert your thread..sorry
No need to be sorry bobbi. I now live in the town of my birth. The death of the mines has devastated this area. Two local chemical works have also closed. Fortunately none of this affects me. Thank god.
