I'm Going To Prison Soon! Some Advice Required...
Hi,
I've been engaged in a long dispute recently with Courts and Bailiffs. I've successfully deterred the Bailiffs and all attempts by the Court to extract money I owe them. Subsequently I am scheduled to appear before the Magistrates on the 14th of this month.
The dispute relates to compensation costs awarded against me. Anyway, I'm currently observing a suspended sentence for witholding the money until the amount is paid in full. I'm not prepared to surrender my principles and am willing to endure a committal to prison.
Because I will be considered a 'Civil prisoner' I was wondering if anybody could advise me if I serve half of my sentence or the full term?
I look forward to your responses,
kindest regards.

Hi,
thanks for your answer. At my previous hearing the Magistrates advised me that because of the nature of my fine it would be written-off after a period in custody.
Regards to time spend in a cell it really doesn't concern me. I was just wondering if early release was an option.
Anyway thanks for taking the time to answer,
Zipppy.

Hi guys,
thanks for taking the time to respond.
EDDIE51 you are certainly correct that some fines (Council Tax, Child Support Agency etc) are not written-off with a custodial sentence.
I've decided to opt for this route for two reasons. Firstly I'm not currently in a position to pay. At present I don't work and I don't claim state benefits. And secondly I'm exercising a point of principle. I don't wish to reveal too many details in these messages, but if indeed I'm committed to prison I'll post the full reasons on my release. Indeed I'll post a link to a local newspaper article about my position who were very supportive as is depicted in their piece. In brief I am compelled to pay compensation which is folly on behalf of the Judge who imposed it.
As one reply alluded to I will not acquire a criminal record as a consequence of this decision because it's regarded as a civil matter (although I have a record anyway).
And finally fear of imprisonment may deter those who have a job, a home and a family, but I have none of these and therefore the prospect of a brief suspension of my civil privledges is no deterrent.
Take care guys.
