Green Back Bacon

We have just bought some "green middle back bacon" it looks very nice but why is it called "green" ?

yup...when i was a kid we used to shop in a store like arkwrights and the unsmoked bacon was labelled as "green"

Well Ive eaten it now and not really impressed, it was a bit like plastic.

Difficult to find a really good bacon these days.

Green is unsmoked bacon. Prefer smoked myself. From a proper butcher. None of this plastic wrapped stuff which seems to be mostly water...dry cured is best.

If you're seeking really good bacon, this place supplies online. A friend of mine bought me some Black Bacon, which is sweet-cured with beer, from their shop recently. It wasn't cheap but it was gorgeous!

As others have indicated, the OED gives one definition of 'green' as "not dried, seasoned, smoked or tanned".

I do not like smoked. Unsmoked always. Or green as I have always known it. One of the best is Aldi dry cured. Wonderful.
