work car park...
9 Answers
hi we share a car park at work with 2 other small units.
but the 1 unit makes settee frames and leaves wood and nails all over the car park even though they have proper bins and skips for their rubbish to go in.
in the last 3 months i've had numerous punctures and today i got another which will need a tyre replacing due to damaging the wall ( this is the 2nd one in 7 weeks) and my tyres cost £125 each.
today i went to see the owner and they aren't interested, but i have taken photo's of all the wood and nails across the car park and their skip overflowing as its too full.
can i take this further i.e council to investigate as i've got the wood and the nail pins they use in my car that went into my tyre, plus they are the only unit on the estate to use thes materials..

to be fair their tyres only cost about £40 new as everyone else only has small cars with 14" wheels, my tyres are 18" hence the cost and i showed the owner a perfectly good tyre with around 4000 miles rendered useless due to the nails thats gone into the tyre today, and explained that i wasn't going to be willing to pay £1000 a year on tyres unnecessarily.
I will try the council if it happens again as i'm keeping the evidence i got and will get more as they have proper bins and skips in place but would rather litter the car park..

Nice to know the other car park users can afford even £40 a time. I suppose there would be a certain difficulty in proving that your punctures were caused by carelessly discarded nails. It might be cheaper to find alternative parking even if it meant buying a parking permit. Have you thought of contacting Citizen's Advice? Perhaps if you did get some advice together it might be worth asking the others to join you in a structured request to the owner if you are prepared to make the running. WIsh you well with it.
the nails that went in today were still on the chipwood strip that was about 8 inches long, i have had to snap the wood off to stop it breaking whilst driving and damaging my wing.
I'm going to mention it to the owner of the units and car park next time he's in but in my opinion it's nothing really to do with him as its the next units rubbish causing problems.
the manager of the company i told said maybe they fell out the skip the last time it was picked up, and my reply was well a brush and 5 minutes would go a long way and stop most further punctures from happening.
their bin for the wood is overflowing that when they put stuff in 75% of it just falls back out onto the car park.
I just think its past a joke and if the others wont moan about it then i'll moan alone about it..

Write to the company and state your complaint, asking them to reimburse you etc. If they refuse go for a Small Claims Court arbitration. You should be able to get all the info you need from your County Court website and download the forms. It's not difficult and if they have any sense they'll settle before the hearing. Over the years I've had 100% success.
thanks mcmouse, i did say today though this is the 3rd and will be the 2nd tyre in 3 months which is unaceptable. i have said that this is the last one i'm fixing and i will take further action if it happens again.
i have got pics of the stuff in the tyre, i have kept the wood it was connected to and will be keeping the nails when i have the new tyre tomorrow. i have pics of the overloaded scrap bins and various pics of the car park with the bits of wood and discarded nails on the floor, and has 3 units share the car park and there the only 1 using wood (other 2 do shotblasting and steel slitting) so it puts the wood and nails 100% theres.
