Any police force is looking for level headed mature individuals who are capable of remaining in control under difficult circumstances, and that's something you either have, or you don't, but rest assured, the interview panel will be looking for those qualities, and they will find them if they are there. Good luck.
A few years ago a mate of mine applied for the West Yorks Police, he was asked to interview. In the meantime he had decided against joining but decided to attend for the interview practice. So he turned up not realy wanting the job. During the interview he was asked "You're visiting your Mum & Dad, you notice your Dad's tax disc is well out of date, what do you do?" he said, " I'd point it out& say careful or some one will have you for it". " Your on duty one night and you catch a car doing 60 in a 30 zone, when you pull the car, it is your best mate, what do you do?", he said "I'd give my mate a right ear bending about doing double the speed limit & putting me on the spot, then let him go". Thinking his honest answers would have blown it for him, he was amazed when they offered him a place. He took the offer & is in the CID now. Recently he bumped into the Inspector that asked him these questions, My mate said he was supprised the took him on after his more than honest answers. The Inspector replied "we don't want people who'll shop Family & Friends".
Thanks cliffy - that was really helpful reading your answer. I suppose it depends on the individual person conducting the interview - and that its different districts, the Met might notbe so tolerable. Such a fine line to tred though isn't it - guess I'll have to see how to play it when I get there! Thanks to everyone for all your suggestions!! :)
