Hello AB'ers

Each time I try to rename photos downloaded from camera or internet to My Pictures, message appears :-"If you change a file name extension, the file may become unusable".
Same happens when I save any documents from Word to My Documents.

Never had this problem before until recently...Tahnks

You'll see that message if you try to change, say, 'mydog.jpg' to just 'fido'.
You need to ensure that the new file is named as 'fido.jpg'
You can either simply remember to add the correct file extension (which is given as 'Method 2' in the link below), or use the the fix given in 'Method 1':

..similarly, make sure your re-named Word files have .doc tagged onto them.
it might be better, safer and easier if you were to set windows so it doesn't even show the file extensions (the part you shouldn't change)

For XP follow this but in reverse (this is to show them, you want to hide them)
http://www.fileinfo.c...-show-extensions.html

For vista (again in reverse)

Many thanks all, solved. Checked "Hide extensions for known file types" Don't know why it went wrong---You can always rely on ABers :)
