Another terrorist apoligist?

The guy said " we should not have a mosque at ground zero because Muslims killed us on 911" - is there something ambiguous about that? Why is Whoopie having a fit?

Because it'd be like someone in 1984 saying "You cannot build a Catholic church near the Grand Hotel because the IRA blew it up during the Tory party conference.
There are some simple-minded people who associate extremists with a whole religious set, rather than understanding that extremists use religion to justify their cause.

Jake, I dont think it is being said there should be no mosque. Just the siting of this particular one. It ahs to be said, it is very insenstive slmost to the point of a deliberate provacation.
And yes, it would be inappropiate to have a Church on ground where 3 thousand Mulsims had been killed by Christians

But that's the point
The 9/11 terrorists were muslims but they don't represent all muslims any more than George W. Bush represents all Christians.
Having a mosque there would be an important step in New york recognising that and showing that america is not at war with all muslims.
Unfortunately there seems to be a set of rather stupid aggressive people who want exactly that

I'd agree with rojash, the planned mosque is not actually in the new Ground Zero buildings, it would be several blocks away. As has been said, not all Muslims approved of 9-11 or would have condoned it - they can't all be tarred with the same brush. Mrs T - I though Obama has said he's not Muslim? His middle name may be Hussain but nobody is sure of that. This article is interesting (especially the last few lines - name-calling in the name of religion is obviously nothing new).

The term 2 blocks away is meaningless . I have read many reports and this one sums it up.
# Here's the map. Again, I'm 95% sure that it's the building with the Amish market.
That would put it 220 feet away from the edges of what was the world trade center plaza. And
it's 450 feet from the "pit". #
I then thought what if a Nazi cultural centre was built 250/450ft from Auschwitz would that acceptable.

Point taken modeller, the aerial view in this article shows that it's relatively close. http://www.zimbio.com...tion+aerial+map+shows
The plan is however for a large cultural centre with meeting rooms, library, etc which everyone could use (from what I've read) so the mosque accommodation is only part of the new development. I can see both sides of this discussion - but how many years might it be before rank and file Muslims (who were no part of the atrocities and did not/do not support them) will be able to consider integrating back into NY society by building an openly-available centre like this, so people can see for themselves what goes on?
