National Insurance Number

Is the letter at the end of my National Insurance number important? Mine ends in 'A', but on my wage slip it's 'D'.

The national insurance number should be the same for both.  i would check with your wages department that they have the right one otherwise you might not be being credited with NIC (National Insurance Contributions) which all come into play when you retire and want to be paid your pension.

definately get that sorted, your paying national insurance towards someone else and then that person is going to get a refund of the over payments u have paid while u are going to get told at 65 that u havent paid enough insurance and therefore will be liable to the most basic of pension from the governement!

Sort it straight away in case the wage department kick up a fuss stating that its your responsibility to check your wage slip and notify them immedietly, may need to talk to a solicitor if that happens as i dont understand the responsibilities of who is liable to pay any NI that has been missed over your employment.

Hi shazzabell,The last letter has some relevance but your records can be accessed by the first 2 letters and the next 6 digits.  Nobody else shares those.
