Why do most people put things on e-bay at night, so those of us who only have access to computers during the day miss most of the 'last bidding' war. Twice this week I have bit on 2 x beautiful German Art Deco clocks (xmas present for the BF), and being pipped at the last post. S'not fair. I suppose I'll just have to technologise my home, which I have resisted for years. Or get a dingle dongle that actually works at more than 2 miles an hour.

Yeah, but my maximum bid could well go beyond its max (I succumb very easily to temptation...) if I knew at the very end how close I was to losing it.

There used to be a system Eddie whereby you could elect to be notified by text on your mobile phone if you had been outbid - and could then bid again by text - this was ideal for me.

However this service appears to have disappeared now - you can only be notified by e-mail or some such other internet communication, not mobile text anymore :-(
I wouldn't use the max bid as I don't want to get in to a bidding war with anyone and have the price of something pushed up. If I know how much I want to pay then I will just put it on snipe (if I'm not around), generally I just wait til the last 10 seconds or so. I never bid until it's nearly time for the item to end.
