Should you switch your router off overnight?

I do otherwise it gets a bit hot

I always do but I switch everything off at night. Some people on here say that it is better not to.

I never do. When I go to work, I`m gone for days and I don`t switch it off then either. It hasn`t done any harm so far. It might shorten it`s life though

i switched all electric plugs off at night except fridge freezer and a bedside lamp.

Thanks for replies. I've started turning mine off last thing at night. I wonder if it could overheat otherwise.

They are designed to be left on all the time (well they should be!)

Any decent brand one can safely be left on and will use minimal power.

Mine is never turned off, I will often leave my PC on for days as well but I do turn off my monitor.

The engineer who repaired my laptop told me that the mains power adaptor should be switched off when not in use for a few hours. He said that leaving it on shortens its lifespan.

I was just wondering if the same logic would apply to the router.

If your router dies, contact your ISP and they will send you a new one :-) result!

All transformers produce heat.A good one will be engineered to the required tolerances.
Some of these cheap power supply units are best switched off. The router itself is not a problem.

All electrics are off at night except Fridge and boiler timer. I never leave anything on standby. If plug has switch, that is always off.
