What was your mum like?

I was just thinking about mine-and she could have been a 19th C pioneer. She did a lot of the DIY-painting-even some rather pretty murals on our lounge wall-,even building a wall unit in our DR and some furniture in my bedroom. She could be out in the garden from early am til dusk-growing a lot of our veggies, cooked everything from scratch, baked cakes,pies,cookies...and the best bread ever. She even made a lot of my clothes til I was in my teens. And she still managed to do part-time jobs as well. I wish I had half the energy she seemed to have.

My mother was completely undomesticated, she kept house but housewife she was not -completely at her happiest in a business environment - I know we're weird, but she loved the feel of stationery, I could live in Staples... Housework didn't remotely interest her but she had to do it while she was a stay at home mum - as soon as she could, she went out and got a job, and was a typist until she was 76. A woman before her time.
