I agree with shopaholic84 - I've never seen so many smug answers to a simple question! Servicing a 206 is Fosters easy, as you lot obviously know, the guy doesnt want to be ripped off by an 'expert' who will doubtlessly invent some problems while 'servicing' the car. As for 'inspecting componants for safety' - since when was that anything to do with a service? A service is replacing parts and topping up fluids - safety inspection has a name - 'M.O'T'.
I'll try and give you a clean cut answer Shop, if the car is a diesel the fuel filter can be a b@stard, Air filter, good, Oil Filter, good, Fan belt to check & change, Good, oil change! this is where safety comes in, the car has to be Jacked on level ground, make sure you chock the rear wheels before you even start the job with the car in first, handbrake on, & the Ign key taken out for safety, the Sump nut can either be Tox that is a special spanner, replace the copper washer on the nut when replacing, do not drop the car until ( If you still intend to do it yourself) made sure all is tight, Oil filter, I do not think the answers you have been given are nasty answers, but answer on the point of safety, & what COULD HAPPEN if for the sake of argument you forget to replace the lock pins in the caliper, if you look deep into this site people WILL give you honest answers, I would think very deep into what you intend to are attempting to do to save money but you can get the car serviced for under £150 including parts, its worth thinking about! do you not think?
