How do you get to be a poilceman on horses? Do you go into it once in the police or are they specials that can ride? Thinking of a career move...

you have to join the force and spend at least 2 years 'on the beat' as it were and then you can apply to join the mounted department however its ridiculously competitive and difficult to get into

Yes two years on patrol before you can go into a specialism.
