A few of the Windows 7 updates for 64 bit versions have been coming down corrupted . If you hide the particular ones that are faulty until Microsoft has a chance to repaIr them you will be ok . The last one I have come across is KB974431 and can cause you grief. This problem is mainly with the 64 bit OS.

Which updates?

they will have a number starting with the letters KB, often if an update gets stuck the easiest solution is to download them from Microsoft download site and install them manually.
I have the same problem, I have been trying to install KB2416473 and KB951847 for over a month but they wont install

Further to my pervious post it has been highly recommened by Microsoft that you dont try to manually install them until they are repaired
