Meg's back legs starting giving away this morning and she had a look in her eyes which told me she'd had enough.
We made that dreaded final visit to the vet, she's at peace now, bless her.

Meg when we lost our last sheltie (a few years ago now) my wife and I used to go for a walk just to get out of the house but then realised she always came with us. Its not easy but I really do wish you all the best

Next hurdle will be getting the ashes back. When Susie died last year I put her ashes on a shelf over the doggie duvets in the kitchen. I'll have to decide what to do next.
At the moment I'm erring on leaving them both over their beds rather than burying or scattering them.

Dont want to upset you Meg but I buried Sherry in thr garden with her blanket and favourite toy. I have a large photo of her on the wall behind my computer. She will never leave me xx

I'm really sorry to hear of the loss of your beloved pet. I have tears in my eyes now from reading Rainbow Bridge and thinking about how much I miss my little mischief maker (he's back in Spain with his Dad).

I'm sure Meg had the best life she could possibly have had with you. x

Alex, we buried our first Border Collie in the garden, we were young and fit then.
Subsequent ones ashes went in pots with nice plants in them, sadly the plants have died but the memories are still there.
Did you get another dog after Sherry? This is the end of the line for us.

Still thinking of you miss meg, I know how hard the first few days/months are!.....i still haven't got another dog, a part of me wants to, but I don't want to compare the new one to Ollie, that wouldn't be fair at all, so I'm going to wait a while.....and if things don't change, then I won't get another dog!...............He was very special, hard to replace!.........

I do understand how you feel Wendy, I have vowed no more pets. It was hard to turn down the chance to rehome 2 other dogs on separate occasions this last year. I am now a liabilty when I am out and about. If I see any dog I ask if I may make a fuss of it. A simple pop and shop for a loaf can take me 30 - 40 minutes if the 4legs are around :o)

Hello Wendy, like lankeela, I hope you don't think me insensitive to post this as a possible consideration too http://www.cinnamon.org.uk/volunteers.html. A retired colleague (whom I thought was 100% cat only fancier) now does regular dog walking for the Trust on the days she sets aside to help out. Personally I believe this is a fine charity and I do what I can to support them. Always interesting reading anyway. Best wishes ♥

Thanks lankeela, early days yet but if we do consider another dog we will probably go for an older one. Meg and Susie came from a farm where they were going to be drowned as not suitable for working dogs.
