Film Title or Director please

Watched a film at a friends house some time ago but can't remember the name of it.  Comedy with 2 guys doing a kind of road trip.  Lots of references to other films, as if they pass through studios or sets with big name actors.  The Director is a young guy with a beard who also appears in the film -he is very well respected in Hollywood, which apparently explains how so many actors agrred to appear in this film.Any ideas on the title or Director's name?

Sounds a little like "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back", directed by Kevin Smith.
