Scanner and printer problem

I have a new printer. My scanner keeps trying to send documents to my old printer which is no longer attached to the computer. In my control bar m the old printer is listed as "offline". Any idea how I can remove the old printer completely from my list, and more importantly, add the new printer to the scanner? Thanks. I use Windows XP.
