My Son was sacked last February,

Long story which is going to a tribunal next month.

However he started a new job 2 weeks ago and has had a letter from the tax department to say he has a rebate due.
Will this be paid in a lump sum (cheque etc) or will it be credited from his tax he will be paying in the coming months?
It dosent say in the letter.

My mum had been paying tax on a private pension and shouldn`t have been. The tax office sent her a cheque for the total overpay. I imagine rebates for other reasons would be paid in the same way.

trt - If the letter stating about the rebate was from the Inland Revenue - I would think he may receive a cheque.

Normally, though, he may find he does'nt have to pay any tax for a while, until the rebate is paid back to him.
