After working for BT via Manpower for the past 3 years, my son has been given a full time contract with BT. It started on 1st Nov and he has been told that he'll go from being paid weekly, to monthly and therefore won't have any money coming in until the end of Jan.
How are people meant to live, especially over Xmas, (he has a 2 year old daughter). I thought "lying on" periods were for new employees that nothing was known about.
I have been processing payroll for weekly and monthly paid employees for many years and have always set up the new employee for pay on the first payrun after their start date. In your son's case this would be for the payrun at the end of November which I will run for my company on Wednesday 24th to be in the emplyees bank accounts on Friday 26th as we always pay on 28th of each month or the last working day before if it falls on a weekend/bank holiday. There does not seem to be any reason why the company cannot do this for him as there is still plenty of time left. Also I cannot see why he should have to wait until the end of January - that is far too long. If I suggested that to anyone at my company I would have a riot on my hands.
no one is expected to work a month in hand. When is the normal pay date and is it in advance arrears of what. For example where I work we get paid on the 15th half in front half in arreas. I'd be surprised if he has nothing until the end of Jan, sounds very odd to me.
i don't really know what you mean by lying on, but even if paid in arrears (which is usual) surely he would get paid at the end of november for november
The week's lying on is for hourly-paid employees, not salaried. This is because they cannot be paid until the relevant time sheet for the week has been processed. I'm sure he will be paid at the end of November.
I've never heard of the term LYING ON.
I think there must be a misunderstanding if he thinks he'll have to work for 3 months before he gets paid.
