Car failed it's MOT today for a few easy to fix to reasons. One of them is stated as 'offside rear road wheel bead rim badly distorted', for which I have had to purchase a new wheel. They asked if I had hit any curbs, which I haven't although a couple of other people occasionally drive my car so one of them could have done it. However, I am thinking it might be my driveway. It's a straight driveway directly in front of the house but it curvs off at the end and depending on how nextdoor have parked I sometimes have no choice but to reverse partially over the grass and bring the wheels back up on the drive, which involved a slight curb. Baring in mind I only do this at a couple of miles an hour, could that be the problem? Can't keep forking out for new wheels.
I never thought of pot holes, I have hit a few of them recently.
Wish I had thought about the scrap dealer too. The garage that did my MOT said they couldn't do it so I would be better off going straight to VW who charged me just under 50 quid for the part. I am taking it somewhere else to be fitted though.
it's a 1.6 Golf and they are just normal tyres, nothing fancy.
Well having taken it to a different garage to fit the wheel, they informed me that there is no way the MOT should have been failed for the damaged wheel. They said it just had a small dent which they knocked out and then put on a different side of the car. I took it for the re-test at the original garage and they passed it without mentioning the wheel. Thankfully VW were able to give me a refund on the new wheel I had bought from them.
