Nail in tyre

MOT discovered a nail in tyre, what could happen if I leave it ?

your tyre will go down,either slowly or if the nail gets moved about, quite quickly! If the tyre is going down slowly, it will affect the handling of the vehicle, if it deflates quickly and you are going at speed you could be in serious Sugar, even if you aren't travelling at speed if you end up driving on the rim of the wheel, it can damage it so that you would you need a replacement wheel as well as the tyre.

Your tyre will go down when you least need it to. Get a garage to remove it and have it plugged if it is a good tyre if not think about replacing it.

Surely it would have failed it's MOT with a nail in the tyre anyhow?

well you would not have an MOT for a start.

This will be at least a slow puncture and at any time could become a fast puncture and cause a serious accident. You need a new tyre asap.

as moonraker says you may not have to get a new tyre if the nail is in the main tread, ie not the side wall, you should be able to get it plugged.

I had passed the MOT when they kindly chalked marked the nail. You dont fail MOTs over a nail.

You scared me enuf and had a new tyre as fitter said I'd driven on flat & scored up the inside.

it can be repaired rather then replaced.. depending on where the nail is in the tyre.

not if the innerside is scored - or have I been spun a yarn @ £120 ?

If puncture is in tread area .. and tyre has no evidence of being run flat .. it can be repaired.
In sidewall or on edge ... scrap.

dunno where you got the MOT done but a nail is a fail:
"Tyres fail if they have serious cuts, bulges or other damage. The wear on the tyre is checked with a tyre tread depth gauge to ensure compliance. The tyres are examined to ensure that there is no fouling with any part of the vehicle." - I would have thought a nail counts as "other damage" at least.
