Sorry for my constant questions about this - having the car MOT done tomorrow (hopefully it will pass) and then I need to tax it. I have my insurance but no renewal letter (have recently moved but didn't inform the DVLA). The lady in th Post Office said I need my log book which I can't find although I have a slip of paper off the old log book called New Keeper Supplement, will this be sufficient? If not, how do I tax the stupid thing? Thanks

no, i think you will need the whole log book. You can apply for a new one via dvla. I think they charge 25 quid
Tax it online, they will know if you have the correct documents, even if you don't 'actually' have them to hand.

but you need the reminder letter to do that - there is a code on there you have to put in
0870 850 4444 ... ask 'em for the Ref. number

Thanks everyone. One more question I'm afraid - if I tax it online can I drive it without a current tax disc and how long does the new MOT take to register on the system? Thanks again.
Naz is right....I've taxed mine by phone.
You can tax it online without the reminder letter, I think you need the a refernce number on the V5 but if you haven't informed the DVLA of a change of address then the new taxdisc will go to your old address.
I'm pretty sure that when taxing your vehicle online, there is a disclaimer stating that you should not use the online serivce if you have moved recently. It also says this in red writing:

"If you have recently purchased this vehicle and you have not received your full Registration Certificate (log book) from DVLA (the green slip alone is not enough) you should NOT use this service.

If you do use this service without having received your full Registration Certificate (log book) from DVLA then your new tax disc may be sent to the previous keeper of the vehicle.
