MyHeritage again folks
15 Answers
I usualy use Mozilla Firefox but today opened Windows Explorer (the reason being in my next question about Adobe Reader). As you can see from earlier threads, I am having trouble deleting MyHeritage, and when I opened Windows Internet Explorer today, there it was. Top left next to the Windows I E logo it said MyHeritage.com Search - Windows Internet Explorer. In the little box lower down search.MyHeritage.com Then a tab with a Green Tree logo MyHeritage.com . At the bottom of the page in the middle 2008-2010 My Heritage Ltd All Rights Reserved. I changed the little tab near the top and then it said Windows Internet Explorer. But how do I get rid of MyHeritage which keeps popping up in Mozilla when I am searching for something, as a type of search engine. I am NOT technical so laymens terms please. I have tried the hints from other ABers as in my previous threads but to no avail. It is now getting on my nerves ... I want to get rid of My heritage for good please !!

I have Win XP whereas you have Win 7.
Open I.E. . Go to TOOLS in Menu bar. Do you have a "Manage Add-ons" in the drop-down list??? If NO then Win XP different to Win 7.
If YES, then highlight "Enable or Disable"
A new panel opens showing at the top, all disabled add-ons and lower down, all enabled add-ons.
Can you see anything mentioning "My Heritage" in the lower panel??
If YES, then highlight the particular line and put the dot against Disable under Settings.
If NO, then My Heritage is not in the Add-on list for I.E. so we will have to look somewhere else.
See how you go, Smurfchops.

I have now looked in all the add-ons in IE and Firefox, myheritage does not pop up anywhere (only when I don't want it !) I managed to find it in Control Panel /Install Uninstall and I uninstalled it, but a little window still appears on the right hand side when I am searching for something, and it looks like I am searching 'through' myheritage.com, also little myheritage adverts come up, as if asking me if I want to go into their website and search for the heritage of something - e.g. do i want to search for the heritage of an estate agent ? ! .

try this on Firefox....look at 'show cookies' & delete MyHeritage. Switch off PC, count 10 for new setting to take effect, & switch back on.

jaydah, I unticked the cookie box, switched off, restarted ... still there, but it seems as though myheritage.com was a search engine in my laptop. It was one of the search engines in the menu box, top right hand side of the screen, I have now switched to the google logo. I think I have managed to remove it from the list now. Fingers crossed and thanks everyone for your help.
Well I dont believe this. I deleted myheritage from my search engines (see last answer), switched off and restarted. Then I typed Fred Bloggs into the main search box .. and got the myheritage.com tree logo on the left hand side of the page with 'enhanced by google' on the right of the box. Underneath is all the web pages relating to Fred Bloggs. On the right of the page is a black edged window saying Research fred bloggs genealogically with MyHeritage.com . I can't get rid of it ! This little green tree logo is getting on my nerves. Is it on everyone's laptop?
