Retiling onto existing tiles

Nope, existing tiles, if they're sound and not loose, are an ideal surface to tile over.

Personally, I'd take 'em off, but it's what I do to earn a crust, so I'm biased, lol.

we did this in our bathroom with ordinary adhesive and they have been up for years with no probs

THanx guys. Naz, we have had water running down the back of the old ones ( if you knock them some have a hollow sound so I presume they aren't fixed properly) so I think removing them might turn into a big job. Although the whole wall is tiled, we plan just to partially top tile so to create a feature (like a stepped partially tiled area that you sometimes see in cheaper bathrooms}

or you could use a waterproof panel like 'showerwall' or other high pressure laminate. or the pvcu cladding systems are lightweight and waterproof.
these would be stuck to a large wall area so a few loose tiles will not matter.

If you're planning on tiling anyway, taking off the loose tiles will be cheaper (in the long term) than tiling over loose ones.
