I am off to Cuba for a holiday next May and was wondering what is the best way to take spending money. IE credit cards, travellers cheques or cash and in what currency please
we took US dollars which the cubans loved, we had a few pesos, but quite honestly if you're all inclusive no need for much cash, plus, we had several items of branded sports wear with us, trainers, baseball caps, Tees, and the hotel staff bought them off is or traded them for souvenirs, my daughter had a previous season Man U shirt and swapped it for a beautiful marble chess set (I think it was, and a wooden carved harley model, bit hazy on the detail, but it was a good deal)
i was there in september and took sterling cash with me and had noproblems what so ever some credit cards are not accepted if they have any american involvement and more of them thatn you think do .They travel company that we went with offered a service to change money off of credit cards but at a price !
When we went I changed some money at the official desk at the airport - It had been a long flight and I was very tired and it was only on the coach after I noticed they'd exchanged at the Euro rate and not at stirling - it was about 1.4 Euros to the pound then!
Also if you're going with Air Cubana be ready for a blast from the past - like flying in the 70's no inflight entertainment other than watching people's reactions at the rather surly flight attendants.
Cuba's quite an experience though! well worth going Havana's certainly worth seeing
