On our land registry documents for the house, we have liability for the repair of the Chancel of our local parish church. After reading nightmare stories about the chuch folk knocking on doors and saying they need X thousands of pounds for a new church roof etc, is it adviseable to take out a chancel repair indemnity insurance policy to safeguard against this happening? If so, does anyone know which insurance companies offer this service and appropriate costs.?Many thanks in advance.

You need to speak to your local Insurance Broker who should be able to advise you if such cover is available in the market and to try to market the risk.
I had no idea what you were asking about and looked in Google. I found this link - it is a bit old but will give you some idea -

There were tons of other results in Google.
For a normal house a one-off premium of about £75 will cover you for 10 years (this is much mine cost), so yes, is definitely worth it for peace of mind.

Being asked to contribute to the repair of a chancel is pretty unlikely (hence the modest premium), but it is not outside the realms of possibility http://www.guardian.c.../08/church-of-england
The best people to speak to are a company called CLS. I spoke to them a while back and they helped me straight away. Very helpful and very efficient. They created the Chancel Check facility and specialise in insuring in cases like this. There website is at www.clsl.co.uk. I hope this helps?

Very many thanks to you all. I have looked at the website wolf63, lots of useful info. It does seem unlikely but not impossible and as you say flip flop, peace of mind is worth it. I am going to check out that website later alexanian8130 and see whats whats. Once again, thank you all.
