Chancel Repair Indemnity Policy
5 Answers
On our land registry documents for the house, we have liability for the repair of the Chancel of our local parish church. After reading nightmare stories about the chuch folk knocking on doors and saying they need X thousands of pounds for a new church roof etc, is it adviseable to take out a chancel repair indemnity insurance policy to safeguard against this happening? If so, does anyone know which insurance companies offer this service and appropriate costs.?Many thanks in advance.

For a normal house a one-off premium of about £75 will cover you for 10 years (this is much mine cost), so yes, is definitely worth it for peace of mind.
Being asked to contribute to the repair of a chancel is pretty unlikely (hence the modest premium), but it is not outside the realms of possibility http://www.guardian.c.../08/church-of-england
