Please can anyone stop me going bonkers and explain to me how 22 D works ('Old iron brooch finally found in fens'[6])? I know the the six-letter entry that is required from the theme, and from having four of the six letters from answers across. It is the same as a well known school. From that, I also know, but only a posteriori, that the immediate solution to the clue must be a five-letter name which is either synonym for a fen or is a NZ tree, one or the other. But how on earth do you get either of those from that clue? Any wise counsel will be much appreciated.
