Yes China is right, written by couple of welsh guys from the band Badfinger. Both these guys, Pete Ham and Tom Evans died in tragic circumstances, still a brilliant song.

Without You-Badfinger (1970), and written by the band members Peter Ham (hanged himself 1975) and Tom Evans (hanged himself 1983). It went on to be a hit for Harry Nilsson (1971) and Mariah Carey (1994).

I do so agree with you there Andy.  Someone once - for some unknown reason - bought me a Mariah Carey Christmas hits CD.  I gave it away to the first person who would take it - and that took me about 6 six months.
