Invictas/Vulcan........why dont you pay a visit yourself? Why would a group of people go to the trouble to do a demonstration if they hadnt seen it with their own eyes. I also believe my friend who visited the store a few months ago.

They were definitely selling puppies the last time I was there (certainly this year; I go frequently but not always to the Pet Kingdom floor). They had a list of conditions on a notice on the wall by the entrance to the area with the enclosures. It set out, inter alia the kind of matters that a breeder would ask of prospective buyers. Harrods had a refurbishment and,I think that for a while, the pets weren't there. They do try. They close the pet area from time to time to give the animals a rest from constant passers-by.

Trouble is that a shop assistant is no substitute for the breeder in choosing a buyer for a pup nor is buying in a shop a good substitute for seeing the breeder and the dam. A shop shouldn't be selling puppies.

I think maybe the high profile of Harrods has been chosen to draw attention to puppies being sold in any pet shop - no-one would bother if the petition was against say 'Happy Pets' of Swindon (sorry to Happy Pets of Swindon if there is such a place).
I for one hope this draws much attention to this terrible trade and hope they bring in a law where puppies can only be sold from the original breeder.

Looking at this from the other end; a reputable breeder will 'vet' a prospective owner for suitability not just hand the pup over to anyone with the money to pay for it.
Dogs need to go to an owner who is aware of the particular characteristics of the breed and whether their home and circumstances are suitable for it.
It's a bit different from buying a designer handbag that can be thrown out when it goes out of fashion.

Surely a prestigious shop like Harrods wouldn't knowingly get involved in selling puppies from dodgy breeders, It does have a reputation to maintain.

Society, that comment shows a total lack of knowledge of the amount of time reputable breeders would spend with their pups - from the time the shop closes till it opens mine would have had three feeds and several let outs, plus cleaning out and playing with them. They don't have an 'off' switch!
