A friend of mine as a LITE-ON DVDRW Model -832S SOHW it says on the front of it that it should be able to write to dvdrw but when he tries it just comes up with error, he write to cd r ok and it will read from a dvdrw he as tried + & - but still no joy any help.

What software are they using to try and write the DVDs?

Does he recognise the disc they have put in?
If he tried packet-writing software to write on a DVD-RW .. try a test burn on a DVD+/-R and see what happens. Burn slow .. 4x .. 6x ish.
