Can I sue
53 Answers
I am against religious slaughter in the uk, for animal welfare reasons only. This has nothning to do with racism at all. It has been reported in the papers than muslim inmates are suing the prison service for being served ham sandwiches for ramadan. I have now discovered that all Tesco lamb and chicken apart from Willow Farm and Finest Free Range lines from are halal, and the animal is recited an islamic prayer during slaughter.
I have been buying Tesco healthy living chicken for my family for a long time and now to my horror discover this is halal. As a Christian do I have any rights to sue for this, what about my human rights and my freedom of religioun rights, I feel they have both been violated.

I knew this would turn round to being accused of racism and not animal welfare. I can assure you it is NOT. My partner has worked in 3 main abbatoirs in the UK including a halal slaughterhouse. His description is totally different. Please do not say this is a argument for racism. I care for animal welfare, and agree all forms of slaughter is horrible, but people will never stop eating meat, is it too much to ask that te animal can be treated with a bit of respect before being slaughtered?? As for dying in seconds, that I do not believe. Ask yourself then why organisations such as BVA, DEFRA, WSPA, FAWC, RSPCA all want to see a ban on religious slaughter or at the very least all this foodstuff to be labelled as such. So all these organisations are racist too then ?????
as a neutral and not in the food or religious professions, I have witnessed slaughter of cows, sheep, goats and chickens in the UK, USA and even Saudi Arabia (as well as China). As to Halal or Jewish practices it is very quick and possibly quicker than by stunning.....sometimes, I wish we could take some humans out that quick! Do the animals know of their imminent destiny, perhaps - and that will always be the argument for the veggies. However, we are inherently ominvores.
I selected one of those organisations at random; this is the DEFRA site http://www.defra.gov....al/welfare/slaughter/ and they say nothing about wanting a ban.
tesco never promised you anything...it was your responsibility to chekc the meat before purchase...thye are not obliged to tell you anything
i suppose any money you won would go to charity...because obviously its the 'principle' of it, isnt it? not the cash
and by the way i have been a vegetarian for about 20 years because i dont have a selective (or potentially profitable) aversion to animal cruelty..
whats a ridiculous question

This story seems to have grown
Last I heard it was only New Zealand lamb
Now it's almost all of the 200 million chickens that Tesco sells each year that is individually slaughterred whist a muslim says a prayer over it.
Given that there are 34 million sheep in New Zealand and only 37,000 muslims they must be doing it in relays!
As a Christian I suggest you stop believing every thing you read in the Mail on Sunday!

Auntsally, I'm sure 'halal' is written on the meat packaging, just like kosher and pave will be if the packet contents is in fact certified kosher. Muslim people eat only halal meat and for their benefit the packaging will label 'halal' if the meat is halal. Read the package, if you see the word 'halal' then don't buy it. Very simple.
