You do not need to spend 700 to buy a laptop. Your daughter will only need a basic model for university.
Also 12" is a very small laptop screen, most are 14" or 15".
If you go to the dell site (www.dell.co.uk) and look at the Inspiron 2200. It is only around 500.
Dell are one of the biggest computer sellers in the world, but do not sell in shops.
Whatever you do buy, make sure it is insured as she is using it outside your home.
Also, if your daughter is doing university work on it make sure she backs up the data regularly (to CD). For this she will need a CD re-writer.
If she wants Windows, go for a Dell.

Has a very strong construction, Wireless internet, bluetooth, great battery, and most things she'd want. Plus it looks far more stylish than any Dell or Windows-based laptop.
