No question really .. after 43" Plasma is the way to go for now .. I have seen a lot of very peculiar looking pictures on LCD TV's .. most of them cheaper ones. If you do buy an LCD, make sure it's a premium brand.
Several here have plasmas (incl me) They all seem to have great pictures and great contrast. They are heavy tho .. and consume a bit of power and warm the room!
albags just bought 32inch panasonic lcd and the picture is fantastic and the sound perfect.
I was of the impression that plasmas are not as good as LCD as they can get a line across the picture which sounds annoying.
I recently bought a 42" Hitachi LCD from them with the big catalogue and thought it was a bargain at £399. (I'm very tight by the way)

It's back in their winter sale if you're interested, Full 1080P, more inputs than you'll ever need and looks good too.
I've just got a 40" Sony Bravia LCD and the picture is excellent. If you're considering hanging it on a wall the plasma will be too heavy.
The comparison table here might help:

Hmmm.. thanks guys. The thought of the plasma warming the room sounds a bit scary :) Would you class samsung as a premium brand? I think its quite good isn't it? I sound so dumb when it comes to this!
Samsung are reasonably highly rated when it comes to tv's.

When I did my research a few years ago now I ruled out plasma altogether as at that time screens only had a 'life' of 10,000 hours.- maybe they still do now?
Sounds like a lot but if your house is anything like ours then its on approx 8hrs per day minimum which means that it could die within 4 years.

Plasmas don't last long - a few years of you're lucky, they are very delicate and get damaged easily. LCDs are good for large screens, have good picture quality and last for 10 years plus (this is info from an expert and from my own personal experience - not the 10 years bit obviously!)
Personally, I have a 32 inch cheapo LCD, as well as a 40 inch cheapo LCD - had them for 1 and 3 years each - the picture quality is excellent. Previously, I would never but anything but Sony, but now I will never buy a 'premium' brand again!

That TV has excellent reviews here, Erin-x:

And of course whatever you choose it's still the same old stuff you're watching anyway. Rupert and Richard get richer, we know the programmes off by heart.

57 channels and there's nothing on as somebody once said.

Well I have to say I really like the samsung one. Thanks for all of your help guys! I love this site btw.. everyones so nice :) xx
erin the only other thing I'd mention is dont just get a 40 inch tv just because of the price. Make sure that a 37 or 32 inch wouldn't be more suitable to the room it will go into. We got a 32" LG tv for only £20 cheaper than a 37" but felt 37" would be too big.
