I do think using the that engagement ring is a bit of an ill omen though. Not sure I'd be comfortable with it in Kate's position.

Camilla's a straightforward woman - why should she hate Diana's ring being passed down the line? She wouldn't want it, she knows the score, Diana is still in many people's minds (although I don't understand it myself) - Camilla's a practical woman, she's probably glad that it's found some use again.
