bibblebub seen this kind of thing years ago it is a terrible way to live.
you have to have someone in the house at all times, at night when they are pulling the lead off the roofs they dont stop when they get to your house.
if it rains the next day you find that you have a new water feature in your property

These sort of areas existed before the General Election but it comes as no surprise that plans to try to do something about them are cancelled by the Tories.

I doubt that any of them voted Tory or Lib Dem at the last election.

It's a disgrace to leave people in such conditions but I'm afraid this sort of thing happens when Labour governments, as always, eventually run out of other people's money.

I really think that overseas aid should be suspended for 1-2 years so that our own population can be helped first. It's ridiculous that aid is still being sent to places like China. Any 'trade benefits' are all one way, not in our favour so the usual arguments don't apply. As I said on another post most beneficiaries of our largesse just think we're mugs and most of the money doesn't get to ordinary people anyway.

No, it's not staying here as it should. It's simply being diverted to other "needy" nations as the overall Foreign Aid budget has been “ring fenced” at 0.7% of GDP - a sum which would go a long way to address some of the problems highlighted by DrFilth..

According to Margaret Dantas Araujo, a member of the Young Fabian Livelihoods and Resource Security policy development group (whatever that might be) this is fully justified “because it plays an important role in making the world a more stable and prosperous place.”

Have I missed something here? The person quoted is a home owner under compulsory purchase. Why do they recieve your ire?

They have not received any of my ire, dave, and I cannot see anybody else venting their spleen against them.

The people concerned are entitled to be angry. They should be angry that the last administration committed itself to a scheme that was clearly unfundable. They should be angry with the present administration for leaving them in the lurch. And they should be incensed with both of them for continuing to pour money down the drain labelled “Foreign Aid” whilst they and others continue to live in such squalor.

I’m sure they will be delighted to learn that the government is spending taxpayers’ money to make the rest of the world a more prosperous place. Perhaps they should consider abandoning their properties in Oldham and moving to Somalia where they might stand a better chance of benefiting from some of the government’s largesse.

Believe it or not, jno, I was being flippant. I’m quite sure living in Oldham even in the conditions described must be infinitely better than living anywhere in Somalia.

However, the issue here is how should our very limited funds be spent? Are taxpayers really happy to see people in this country suffering in this way whilst quite sizeable chunks of hard-earned leave the country to make other nations more prosperous?

I certainly am not.
