Can anyone help. is the Anglo Irish Bank safe for british depositors.

The deposits are guaranteed by the Irish government. Safe as any, I'd say.

I took my money out of the Anglo Irish bank about 18 months ago. I might have been a bit overcautious but I heard at the time that if the Irish government had to honour their guarantee to cover people`s savings, it would cost them more than their gross national product. That was before they were in the sh1t they`re in now.

Anglo are 100% covered by the govt guarantee here in Ireland.

The govt on the other hand aren't worth tuppence. You will have to make up your own mind, personally if i was lucky enough to have large savings I would put them under my mattress rather than leaving in Anglo - that bank alone has sunk this country and if any bank is allowed sink it will be Anglo.
