Her elephant has died yet she refuses all my offers of help

My on-line friend from Africa has lost her elephant in tragic circumstances. A lorry carrying medical missionaries upcountry got stuck at a ford and her father told her to use the elephant to help free it.
The exertion was too much for its heart and it died.
She says that her father is a proud man and would not accept my offer of help as he would see it as charity. What can I do to help them?
