Did you know that there were over 2000 nuclear bombs exploded in those 50-odd years?

Very interesting link, bibblebub, never knew there were that many nuclear explosions.When serving in the RAF I was posted to Christmas Island [now Kiritimati] whilst the Americans carried out their tests. They dropped 24 bombs over a period of 6 months, each bomb more powerful then the previous one. An incredible and terrifying sight.
