moss in lawn

I normally lawn rake my grass in the spring to get rid of the moss but there seems to be a lot of it in the lawn already would it be okay to lawn rake now or treat it with a moss killer

I've just spread Autumn Feed and Weed on my front lawn..........as it has killed off all the moss the lawn is now practically bare.

Not to sure about using a moss killer in the winter but its ok to rake the lawn providing there is no frost on it.

I think I will give it a light lawn rake then put on some autumn feed and see what happens thanks for the replies

If the moss is "live" raking it, no matter however lightly will just spread it.

I agree with nonomaybe raking could make the problem worse and at best it's only a temporary solution. Normally you only get a significant amount of moss if the conditions for it are favourable i.e. damp and shady, or you don't get moss in a lawn that's dry and well drained. So maybe you should be looking a little deeper, perhaps the lawn needs aerating or maybe surrounding trees or bushes are encouraging moss. By all means get rid of with moss killer but you might need to repeat the exercise in the spring and then seek a more radical solution.

thanks for the replies the lawn has'nt any trees near it but yes it could do with aerating so will pick a good day to do that
