I purchased some wool to knit a cardigan. The pattern showed the amount I'd need in 50g balls. The lady in the shop measured me and we agreed on the size I'd make but as I bought 100g balls, she advised me I'd need only half the number of balls. When I finished the cardigan I had 3 complete balls left over, but the shop will not take them back and give a refund or exchange or credit note.I have no use for 3 balls, but someone else might be able to buy them.I am wondering what my customer rights are and whether I should insist on a refund. I spoke on the phone to the manager who works in another branch of the woolshop and she insisted there was nothing I could do. She had the cheek to say that although I had asked for advise about my pattern and there was no need for me to act on it

buy more to knit another cardi ? Donate to a charity shop?
Knit some mitts & donate to charity.
I would have thought that had you followed the advice in the pattern and bought 50g balls you would have had 6 left over. It seems the advice given was based on the pattern, so not really the shop's fault. Years ago my mother would buy less wool than the pattern suggested, asking the shop to lay aside the extra skeins in case she needed them.
"The lady in the shop measured me and we agreed on the size I'd make"
so you also agreed witht he amount of wool needed. really NOT the shop's fault then. They have no obligation to refund you. the shop assisstand may also have recommended you buy diamond encrusted wool, but you needn't have taken her advice, and i suspect probably wouldn't have done
