talking to my half-sister on facebook for the first time, we were just saying its like we already sort of know each other. Feels comfortable talking to each other and have told each other stuff we don't really tell other people!

Why is it that we can talk like that straight away?

I think it is still partly because you are stangers with no history except genetic, but you will also share some aspects of your personality, and so if she has inherited the thoughtful kind gene like you obviously have you'll be great mates as well as sisters.

Awww, thats a lovely thing to say dotty :) I think we will be great mates - just invited her to my wedding lol and her daughter is calling me aunty already!

maybe you just got carried away with the emotion of talking to her for the first time...sorry i dont mean to pour cold water on your talking to her but then again i guess im a cautious person....

They don't come any more cautious than me stokemaveric! Maybe you're right, I think we'll be ok though, she seems very family orientated and I'm not going anywhere.

I can understand your stance on it stoke, but sometimes just going for it and lettin things work themselves out can really work! Has your sis mentioned her Mum's reaction to the news CAJ?

She hasn't said how her mum feels about it, I hope she'll be ok about it though and understand that we want to know each other. She says she told her hubby though and he said they'd need my address to be able to send me a xmas card lol

i agree with you both and im really glad that you are chatting to your half sister caj1 i had a similar expeirence with someone they seemed this and that and when push came to shove they werent what they seemed and well shall we say they nearly came between my wife and me,this was the wifes step sister who she hadnt seen for years but its horses for courses as they say...go for it caj1 and i really hope things turn out good for you all x

Thanks for all the good wishes :o) She's emailed me this morning to thank me for tracing her, I think she's as chuffed as me. Its hard to get over the initial shock of finding out but once you've done that its great to know you have a sister! x

Thanks Mazie, I had a sister up until 10 years ago and its been hard not having her around so getting a half-sister now sort of makes up for what I've missed out on with my other sister. (My family is very complicated lol)! I've told my brother via email so I'm waiting for his reaction.

No we don't really look like each other I don't think. I asked my OH what he thought and he says we have the same mouth. She says I look like our Dad but that she got most of her Mum's looks. x

Update dotty - you were asking about her Mum's reaction... she is fine with it, just asked a lot of questions about me! Her and my OH say we both have the same mouth but I think that's the only facial features we have in common!
