Several years ago I lived in Grimsby and I often took my dog Barney for long walks along the remote coast south of Cleethorpes. The sands go out for a very long way and the tide comes in very quickly.
One day, I crossed with Barney to a sand bar about a mile long and walked the length of it. When I returned to where I had crossed - there was a channel about 100 yards across with the tide flowing in! I wasd miles from anywhere and there was no one else around. I knew I couldn't wait and I immediately started swimming across knowing the tide was flowing in but thinking the dog would have to look out for himself. When I climbed out the other side Barney was climbing out beside me!
I loved my dog as much as the next dog owner. However, at that moment in time I knew I was going to save my own neck and I wasn't going to take any chances for the dog. That might be why I'm still here!
