MM Links Solutions November 2010 [Week 4]
17 Answers
This fourth week in the reign of Lady Slaney II found her ladyship in a somewhat reflective mood and final theme was based on The Barren ~ A Stony Place. This led to a set of links which were far from obvious (but entirely fair):
Lime RICK (a humorous ditty from SW of Eire)
Stone CROP (a rock plant)
Mountain AVENS (a dwarf shrub)
Flower POWER (from a gentler era)
It became obvious that many of us found favour with this final link!

There then followed a long list of the chorus line from the Musical “Hair” including paulineward, Grenmus, fordward, Jools, missmeg, ulysses100, Aquagility, FoxLee2 and kawakiri ~ all singing “This is the dawning of the Age of Aquagility”! Each scored Two Points (one for each exposed “asset”)
Even when the clock went pass the time of 09.05, this same chorus line went on and on with LaneyB, (the appropriately named) middlestump (?), grannydi, barb7771, seekeerz, teacher1, ChrisHewatt and beejay1124 ~ all prepared to bare all for World Peace and One Point! Even the international entries succumbed to the revolution, when Mrs Ont-ice hit on Stone Crop AND Flower Power for Two Points.
“But what of the remaining two link words?” I hear you ask. They took some time and effort to find and gen2 was prepared to do his homework and came up with a winning combination of Stone Crop and MOUNTAIN AVENS for a well-deserved score of THREE POINTS. He was Entrant #28! Equally impressive was Entrant #35 [cliffyg] who alone with Flower Power struck out with the insightful LIMERICK for THREE more POINTS.
However, although rockfordill, gen2 and cliffyg impressed the scorer, this is the final week of the November Contest and there is the more important question to be settled of who will wear the Christmas Crown.

The top of the League Table after this final week is:
SEVEN POINTS: ulysses100
SIX POINTS: centrino, cliffyg & fordward
FIVE POINTS: FoxLee2, gen2, Grenmus,
FOUR POINTS: miss meg, rockfordill & sarumite
THREE POINTS: Elspeth, kawakiri, Mrs Ont-ice, paulineward, Strix, teacher1, tearinghair & wickedtongue
If my records are correct, ulysses100 last reigned as MM Links Setter in September 2008 and is worthy to become re-elected as the next Christmas Champion. Ulysses has been on the boil for the last two months and I feel that we all need an update as what’s been happening in Ancient Greece during the last two years.

Thank you Slaney and Crofter
//I used to WHIZZ through this spectacular lunar landscape FAIRLY QUICKLY without really taking time//
So why wasn't it QUICK Lime? I was so sure that was what was being flagged.
I gave Burren plants for the other three so was pleased to match 2 of them.
Congratulations Ulysses100 on your win. I look forward to your next month's contributions.

I have just let out a shriek of horror .... and delight !!! A close run thing, what ? Thanks as usual to slaney (my hobby is botany but I didn't even think of those plants !) and to crofter, and to all those running at my tail. I can't believe that it's over two years since I last reigned but I look forward to setting the links in the final month of the year. (Crofter, we each have each other's e-mails so I'll be in contact in the coming few days).
Thanks Slaney. I finally managed to jump on your wavelength for two of the words in your final week. That's a high score for moi!
Congrats to Ulysses and all the other high scorers.
I think we should all throw something in the kitty and buy Crofter a new abacus for Christmas. The one he is using must be almost worn out by now. So thanks Dave for all your hard work. See you next week.
