highlights

I am going to get highlights in my hair next week, for the first time ever. My question is, can you request specific colours on the day (I would like some red, along with honey and caramel shades) or does the word "highlights" mean blonde?

hi soozmac, if you ask for 'foils' rather than highlights, you can have whatever colour you want and as many different colours as you want too.  (obviously depending on the amount of colours the hairdresser actually does)

but if I've made an appointment for highlights, can I request foils on the day? sorry, I've never done this before and hairdressers always intimidate me.

it doesn't matter if your request foils or highlights..when u phone for your appointment, foils is hte material they use to put hte colour in your hair, which is highlights u get.

for example when i go to the hairdressers i go for a cut and colour.. then u explain to the hairdresser wot u want they will help u choose colours and show u a colour chart..

i had those colours when i first started getting my hair done, the red can fade quickly tho,,

so it looked brighter, i got the blonde highlights at the top of my head and got slashes of red underneath...

goodluck and dont worry... if u have any photos of the sort of thing u like take them along with u.. or go to ur appointment 10 mins early get a look through there magazines...

The red does fade quickly unfortunately.  Even the branded colour saver shampoo doesn't help.

I chose my colours on the day.

My hairdresser advised me against having more than two different colours put in as 'highlights' at once or I'd end up looking like a kaleidoscope.  We always pick the colours on the day, and use foils.
