What should i use for gritting/clearing

I'm thinking of trying to grit/clear the compacted snow and ice that is laying on the driveway to work. The landlord of the offices has buggered off to Thailand and I don't see any of the other offices doing anything about it. The driveway down to the yard is fairly narrow so if someone skids they will either take out a neighbouring fence or one of the offices (They are mainly wooden structures, posh sheds).

What is the best thing for me to use? Or if it is already compacted then is it pointless trying?

Is there a yellow council grit bin near you? That's what you pay your council tax for - just help yourself.

(Oh, and when the landlord comes back and moans about the filthy carpet, deny all knowledge)

No, there's no grit bins around I'm afraid.

Landlord can whistle dixy. He was down here yesterday and didn't offer to clear it. We have laminate floors anyway though. :o)

Sounds like you should be away somewhere like Thailand Milly : )

Salt bins' contents are really for public path and road use .. not private areas. However, everyone seems to use for their own ends these days.

I managed to get some bags of salt from a builders merchant and have spent the past hour gritting the whole area. Did any of the four blokes who said it was a good idea offer to help? NO!
