I am trying to find a book

I read a book as a child which I shouldn't have done! It was rather disturbing and I recall the 'F' word a lot. I also remember a swarm of bee's doing some damage to a man. It had a dark blue cover and I think the author had a double barrelled surname, either containing Heller or Keller. I don't imagine anyone will know what on earth I am on about but had to give it a try.

Approximately what year did you read it? Are you sure it was bees? Could it have been Iain Banks' The Wasp Factory first published in 1984?
