How long does a penalty disorder for shoplifting stay on record?

I recieved a penalty notice disorder for shoplifting this week and the issuing police officer said it is removed from records after 5 years. Is this correct?

if there is no conviction it remains on police record but wouldn't need revealing on a CRB check nor would police reveal same.

However, if you re-commit you could be sacked for deceit by an employer.
i got into the same situation too. my issuing police, however, said only caution would be flag up? so i opted for the PND instead? im confused!
